CPT 77067 is a routine screening mammogram of both breasts for women with no symptoms, recommended every one to two years from age 40 or 50 depending on the guideline. What the price covers

The hospital's price is the technical fee for the mammography unit, technologist and room, including computer-aided detection. The radiologist's reading is billed separately. 3D mammography (tomosynthesis, 77063) is an add-on code with its own charge at many hospitals.

Screening versus diagnostic

If the screening finds something, the follow-up is a diagnostic mammogram (77066 or 77065), which is a different code, is not free under the preventive rules, and is usually priced higher. Many patients are surprised by that bill.
